A new Huawei device having a side-screen with virtual key patents was exposed. The patent was applied for around July last year, and it finally came out after a year. It is reported that this patent is expected to be used in the new flagship Mate 40 series.

Huawei Mate 40 Patent

From the patent introduction, we can judge that, Huawei plans to concentrate the camera's various operating functions on the side of the screen. The first set of solutions shows that the virtual keys on the side screen mainly include parameter addition and subtraction, flash, filter adjustment, white balance settings, etc., as well as a virtual button to switch the front and rear cameras, and the shutter button at the bottom. The other set of solutions also has the same design concept, but the virtual key sequence is adjusted to parameter addition and subtraction, HDR, flash, white balance, etc.

The Huawei Mate 30 series released last year has adopted a 88° curved screen design and added side virtual keys that support camera shutter control, as well as virtual volume keys to replace physical keys. This exposed patent may hint that Huawei will once again upgrade the design of virtual keys in the next generation of Mate products. So it is quite evident that Huawei Mate 40 will have a full curved display and it will be a camera-centric phone.
